Things to Do in Austin

Our main hobby in Austin is the food scene. Here are a few of our faves - you really can’t go wrong with any of these.

Better Half - Our next-door neighbor and most-visited spot. Great place for morning coffee, brunch, afternoon drinks + late-night snacks.

Austin Proper Hotel Bar - Nightcap spot of choice.

Peacock - The Proper’s Mediterranean restaurant with Catherine’s FAVORITE pancakes.

Neighborhood Sushi - Our go-to sushi spot and one of John's favorite restaurants in Austin. Has a good lunch deal! *

Uchi - For a more elevated sushi experience.

Clark's - For martinis and burgers. *

Lin Asian - Popular Dim sum spot (get the soup dumplings). *

Juliet Italian - If you need a pasta fix. Also our second date spot (where Catherine learned John could be sarcastic and not just the nicest person ever). Good for brunch!

Loro - Excellent patio and frozen G&Ts. Great lunch spot.

Maudie’s - Queso and margs.

Matt’s El Rancho - Bob Armstrong and Mexican martinis - if you’re willing to wait.

Irene's - An oldie but a goodie. We went here on our first date; good spot for a laid-back brunch + cocktails.

Veracruz - Best breakfast tacos with a few locations around town (Mellow Johnnies and The Line downtown; Radio Coffee on Manchaca).

Easy Tiger - Chill brunch and beer spot.

P Terry's - Burgers before you hit the road home.

* Things book up fast in Austin. We recommend making a reservation early for these spots! The others either don’t take resos or don’t have long waits.

If you’re interested in non-food-related activities. 🙃

South Congress - This has changed over the past few years, so stop by if it’s been a while. Good shopping and stop in Jeni’s or Jo’s for an ice cream snack or coffee.

Zilker Park - Good dog-watching spot.

Town Lake Trail - For a run or walk, right downtown.

Love Cycling or Barry’s - For a pre-party workout class.

Barton Springs - We admittedly do not go here often but people LOVE it.
